Job OpportunityJoin our team as a Public Defender in the Appalachian Circuit Public Defender's Office. We are seeking experienced attorneys to represent individuals charged with criminal offenses in the Superior Courts of Fannin, Gilmer, and Pickens Counties.About the RoleWe are dedicated to providing zealous representation to our clients in the court system. As a Public Defender, you will be responsible for conducting legal research, interviewing clients, negotiating plea bargains, and representing clients in court hearings and trials.ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include:
  • Providing legal representation to individuals who cannot afford an attorney
  • Advocating for clients' rights and ensuring they receive a fair trial
  • Conducting legal research to build a strong defense case
  • Negotiating plea bargains with prosecutors
  • Representing clients in court hearings and trials
  • Providing legal advice and guidance to clients
  • Collaborating with other attorneys and legal professionals
RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you should have:
  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Georgia State Bar Association
  • Experience in legal drafting and research
  • Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with criminal law and court procedure
BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary of $76,000.00 per year based on experience, as well as benefits including 401(k), dental insurance, health insurance, life insurance, and paid time off.
