Job Summary:

The Appoquinimink School District is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. This is a part-time night shift position, working 7:30pm - 11:30pm.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain the school building, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and painting.
  • Assist with grounds-keeping duties, including clearing snow and ice.
  • Help with loading and unloading trucks and storing supplies.
  • Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms and other areas of the building.
  • Empty wastebaskets and assist with the recycling program.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License with good driving record.
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, co-workers, and the public.
  • Good physical health and strength to perform routine duties of lifting and cleaning.

Working Conditions:
The work of this nature is generally performed in a school kitchen and cafeteria environment. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain skills. Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operation of commercial food service equipment, movement of objects weighing 40-50 pounds, and continuous standing.
