Role Overview: The Non-Ferrous Operations Manager is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing the production of recycled non-ferrous scrap metal. The core responsibilities of this department include: (a) acquiring non-ferrous scrap delivered to the facility, (b) sorting and processing the scrap to align with industry and customer standards, and (c) dispatching materials to non-ferrous metal clients, primarily metal melting facilities. The Non-Ferrous Operations Manager supervises daily activities and personnel within the non-ferrous department to fulfill these objectives in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management: Direct daily operations of the non-ferrous department, adjusting processing to meet production needs, enhance efficiencies, and fulfill shipping commitments. Ensure perpetual inventory accuracy and conduct physical inventory checks periodically in line with company protocols. % of Time: 25
- Employee Development: Mentor, develop, and manage team members, including executing disciplinary actions when necessary. Champion a lean operations strategy while upholding industry-leading safety and environmental practices within the non-ferrous team. Oversee the implementation of all facets of the Sims Environmental Health & Safety Program to guarantee that operations are consistently safe, environmentally sound, and efficient. % of Time: 25
- Facility Inspections: Conduct regular facility inspections and ensure that corrective measures are enacted to maintain compliance with operational, environmental, and safety standards. Review inspections performed by team members for accuracy and completeness, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken. % of Time: 10
- Product Quality Assurance: Lead and manage the preparation, quality control, and shipment of non-ferrous metal products according to industry and customer specifications. Collaborate with transportation and commercial teams to ensure timely deliveries, ensuring that all customers receive superior service from Sims. % of Time: 15
- Raw Material Management: Oversee the receipt of non-ferrous metal scrap and raw materials, ensuring proper grading, inspection, and pricing. Communicate with the commercial team regarding any non-conforming materials received, ensuring that all scrap suppliers receive exemplary customer service. % of Time: 15
- Additional Responsibilities: Undertake various other tasks as assigned to ensure the continuous flow of operations at the facility. % of Time: 10
