Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our NE Environmental Service team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of environmental planning and engineering tasks, including project management, coordination with state and municipal agencies, and review of environmental reports and plans for conformance to local, state, and federal regulations.

The Senior Environmental Engineer will work closely with the NE Environmental team to support environmental-related projects both locally and throughout the northeast market. The ideal candidate will be flexible, client-focused, and capable of working independently to support the firm's client base.

The work required is diverse and ranges from office work, general field support during construction, and review work that requires strong communication skills and a technical working knowledge of current local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects as a Project Manager or task leader
  • Conduct extensive research, data collection, analysis, and preparation of written technical documentation pertaining to land use, policy, demographics, hazard, risk, and vulnerability
  • Write and develop comprehensive planning documents and sustainability strategies
  • Work collaboratively with other Subject Matter Experts to complete/review comprehensive environmental documents and prepare environmental applications for permitting
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local officials, community groups, academia, private sector, and public stakeholders in developing and/or reviewing plans
  • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings, workshops, stakeholder outreach, public meetings, and open houses
  • Assign tasks to engineers, technicians, or administrative staff
  • Plan and coordinate aspects of work
  • Prepare and manage scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments
  • Assist with proposals to provide professional services
Requirements
  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field
  • 12+ years of experience
  • PE license strongly preferred
  • A masters in a related field may substitute for 2 years of experience
  • Reports to and supports the NE Environmental team
  • Experience with MassDOT and MBTA procedures to achieve environmental compliance throughout all phases of a project
  • Meets project, client, and regulatory deadlines
  • Works in a timely fashion to meet project budgets
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and requirements related to environmental permitting
  • Communicates effectively with clients, coworkers, subconsultants, and county/agency review staff
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Handles multiple public and private sector clients
