Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Operations Specialist to join our team at Alerus Financial. This role will be responsible for supporting the internal accounting operations, including reconciliation, general ledger posting, accounts payable processing, and cash room transaction processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Support: 50%
    • Follow established procedures and process ownership list
    • Balance accounts and systems
    • Maintain and control records
    • Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting
    • Maintain up-to-date standard operating procedures
    • Flowchart processes
    • Communicate changes or downtime in processes
  • Application Ownership: 20%
    • Research system and process exceptions
    • Implement new systems and enhancements
    • Maintain relationships with system vendors and product managers
  • Customer Support: 10%
    • Promote good client relations
    • Provide prompt and courteous service
    • Maintain relationships with internal clients
    • Communicate variances in regular routines
    • Identify and assist with training and support
  • Product Support: 10%
    • Maintain working knowledge of Alerus Financial products
    • Develop relationships with Product Managers
    • Communicate with Product Managers regarding product issues
  • System and Industry Knowledge: 10%
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of systems
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of banking industry
    • Attend regulatory training
    • Attend mandatory employee training
Requirements
  • Associates degree in accounting/finance or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in accounting, finance, bank operations, or securities accounting
  • Strong typing, 10-key, and computer skills
  • Proven ability to analyze and problem solve
  • Demonstrated knowledge handling data in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
  • Effective research knowledge and skills
  • Ability to manage projects and implement change
