Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Pediatric Transport Team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to critically ill or injured patients, including neonates, pediatrics, and adults with pediatric chronic diseases, during interfacility transports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of respiratory care for assigned patients under the direction of the Transport Medical Control Physician.
  • Exercise independent judgment in situations when sudden clinical changes occur and implement necessary interventions and their expected outcomes based on Transport Protocols and TMCP recommendations.
  • Perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated for identification and management of problems as indicated by protocols and/or TMCP recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring, assessment, and appropriate interventions in accordance with standing protocols and orders while in transit, at referring and receiving facilities, and document accurately on all transport documentation according to department guidelines.
  • Participate in peer review of the transport team members by accurately completing post-transport debriefs and take a proactive approach in seeking out own learning needs and experiences to stay up-to-date and current based on departmental educational plan and requirements.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge and operation of all transport equipment within scope and ability to troubleshoot issues on a real-time basis to provide the safest care for patients.
  • Ability to maintain all transport equipment in a state of readiness by checking all equipment, per departmental guidelines, at the beginning of each shift and prn.
  • Participation in the ongoing evaluation of transport equipment needs and provide detailed feedback to ensure evaluation was completed in a comprehensive manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the transport team, referring facility, and receiving facility to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.
