Job Responsibilities

This position is part of our Bridge Maintenance team, responsible for overseeing a significant network of state-maintained roads and bridges. Your work will directly impact the safety and efficiency of transportation across the region.

Key Duties Include:
- Collaborating with a team to perform both preventative and restorative maintenance on bridge structures and large culverts.
- Engaging in manual labor tasks such as constructing footers, abutments, and wing walls.
- Handling concrete placement, erecting steel beam bridges, and installing timber and concrete bridge decks.
- Operating various heavy machinery including dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, and cranes.
- Conducting routine maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment.
- Performing tasks in and around water, utilizing boats and scaffolding at varying heights.
- Responding to emergencies, including snow removal and incident management, which may require working outside of standard hours.

Minimum Qualifications

- Proficiency in operating construction-related machinery.
- Experience with hand and power tools.
- Skills in carpentry and concrete forming.
- Basic welding knowledge.
- Understanding of highway and bridge maintenance practices and safety protocols.
- Ability to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Capability to conduct mathematical calculations for measuring and layout tasks.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Candidates must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B with Air Brake endorsement) within 11 months of employment.

Additional Considerations

- Experience in roadway, bridge, or large-scale construction maintenance.
- Familiarity with carpentry, form building, and concrete work.
- Valid CDL and experience in steel component fabrication or welding is preferred.
- Certification as a Crane Operator with necessary endorsements is advantageous.

Special Instructions

All candidates will undergo background checks, reference verification, and DMV record checks prior to employment. Selected applicants with a valid CDL must complete a pre-employment physical and drug screening. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. The Commonwealth does not offer H1B VISA Sponsorship.

All drivers hired without a valid CDL must obtain their CDL within 11 months of hire. Compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations is mandatory for entry-level drivers.

This position requires physical mobility, the ability to work in various weather conditions, and the capacity to lift up to 70 pounds. Personal protective equipment will be provided, and safety shoes are reimbursable expenses.
