Structural Repair Specialist

Job Responsibilities
The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to safety, community service, and excellence in infrastructure. As a Bridge Repair Operator, you will be an integral part of our mission to enhance the roadways that connect our communities. This role is essential in maintaining the structural integrity of bridges and large culverts across the state.
Key Duties Include:
- Collaborating with a team to conduct preventative and restorative maintenance on bridge structures and large culverts.
- Engaging in manual labor tasks such as constructing footers, abutments, and wing walls.
- Executing concrete placement and finishing, erecting steel beam bridges, and installing timber and concrete bridge decks.
- Operating various heavy machinery including a 25-ton dump truck, rubber tire front-end loader, backhoes, truck-mounted crane, and forklift.
- Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment.
- Working in and around water from boats and scaffolding at various heights.
- Responding to emergencies, including incident management and snow removal.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficient in operating construction-related machinery.
- Experienced in using hand and power tools.
- Skilled in carpentry and concrete forming.
- Basic welding skills.
- Knowledgeable about highway and bridge maintenance practices and safety protocols.
- Able to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Capable of conducting mathematical calculations for measuring and layout tasks.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B with Air Brake endorsement) within 11 months of employment.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience in roadway and bridge maintenance or large-scale construction projects.
- Familiarity with carpentry, form building, and concrete placement.
- Possession of a valid CDL.
- Experience in fabricating or welding steel components.
- Certification as a Crane Operator with necessary endorsements.
