Position: 6' Torch Burner
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize a handheld torch to cut scrap metal into specified dimensions within a designated area.
- Conduct inspections of the cutting apparatus (torch and hoses) assigned to ensure functionality.
- Adhere to established cutting protocols to mitigate risks of equipment damage and personal injury.
- Evaluate and differentiate between various types of scrap metal to select the appropriate cutting technique.
- Possess knowledge of safe cutting practices and torch burning operations, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and procedural guidelines.
- Ensure that gas and oxygen filters are maintained in safe working condition.
- Examine cut vessel sections prior to initiating hot work to confirm that all tanks are drained and devoid of flammable substances, and that all insulation, wood, and cables have been removed.
- Comply with safety regulations pertinent to a scrap yard environment, including the use of appropriate PPE.
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk distances exceeding 1000 yards.
- Capability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs.
- Competence in climbing stairs and/or ladders.
- Skills in stooping, crawling, reaching, and handling materials.
- Ability to push, pull, twist, kneel, and squat as necessary.
- Proficient in seeing, speaking, and hearing.
Work Environment
Positioned aboard a marine vessel or within a dismantling yard.
Potential Hazards
Exposure to heat, rain, fire, burns, falls, noise, and inhalation risks.
