Position Overview:

The Patient Care Assistant plays a vital role in supporting NorthShore providers in delivering exceptional patient care, adhering to established clinical protocols. This role may involve working in various departments including adult medicine, pediatrics, or women's health, and is essential in upholding the standards of care and quality improvement measures across these areas to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts essential tasks such as measuring weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, performing urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and glucometer checks, while accurately documenting results in the patient's electronic health record (EHR).
  • Interviews patients to gather chief complaints, medical histories, and allergy information, ensuring thorough documentation in the patient chart.
  • Prepares examination rooms, organizes equipment, and assists healthcare providers during patient examinations and treatments.
  • Maintains vigilance regarding the comfort and safety needs of patients throughout their care.
  • Accurately completes laboratory requisitions and ensures timely and safe transport of specimens to the designated laboratory.
  • Performs in-house laboratory tests as requested by the provider, adhering to CLIA standards, and records results appropriately.
  • Assists in managing inventory and supply requisitions as necessary.
  • Records and maintains precise clinical information in the patient's EHR.
  • Facilitates the development of staff competencies by reviewing knowledge and techniques, providing assistance with any identified deficiencies.
  • Demonstrates excellence in all areas of training during daily responsibilities and while mentoring colleagues.
  • Participates in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned by management.
