Staff Nurse I

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse I to join our team at the University of Illinois Chicago. As a Staff Nurse I, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care to our patients in the 6E Neuroscience ICU. You will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based care and promote positive patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized patient care plans based on ongoing assessments and input from patients and families.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure effective patient care and promote a culture of safety and quality.
- Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, and document accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage patients and families in their care by developing and implementing patient education plans.
- Recognize and respond to patient needs, prioritizing care and making decisions based on clinical judgment.
- Delegate tasks to support personnel and provide feedback and support as needed.
- Advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession, promoting a culture of respect and empathy.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, and current standards of practice to provide high-quality patient care.
- Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing resources and tools to promote a positive work environment.
- Collaborate with other nurses to identify and promote learning opportunities for staff and students.
- Serve as a preceptor and resource to other nursing, support staff, and students.
- Take responsibility for continued professional growth and development, identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet those needs.
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.
