Job Overview:

The Street Outreach Minister at Star of Hope Ministries provides critical support to unsheltered homeless individuals and families in Houston and surrounding areas. This role entails conducting regular outreach, building trust, and offering spiritual guidance from a Christian perspective.

About the Position:

  • This is a full-time position that requires a strong commitment to serving the homeless community.
  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or related field preferred; high school diploma or associates degree acceptable with equal years of experience (2-4 years).
  • Experience working with addiction, alcoholism, and mental health issues required.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with valid personal liability insurance and acceptable driving record necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting regular street outreach to engage with unsheltered homeless individuals and families.
  • Building trust and rapport through proximity, prayer, and continued encouragement.
  • Providing spiritual counsel, prayer, and guidance from a Christian perspective.
  • Distributing needed supplies, including water, food, blankets, and other essential items.
  • Assessing immediate environmental, emotional/mental, health, and addiction conditions of each client, creating action steps toward resolving crisis issues, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Collaborating with internal programs, local law enforcement, and other homeless service agencies.

Requirements:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
  • Background check and clearance.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) matching.
