Position Overview

AECOM is currently seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer IV to join our established and expanding Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) / Geotechnical division. As an integral member of our CCR team, you will engage in meaningful projects across the southeastern United States, benefiting from a diverse work culture and exceptional training and career advancement opportunities.

AECOM is looking for candidates with a background in the CCR sector who are leaders, client-oriented, impactful, and decisive. This role presents an excellent opportunity for driven engineers to advance their careers while addressing critical environmental and engineering challenges in the region.

The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the lead engineer on medium to large-scale projects.
  • Providing specialized technical input for studies and designs in your area of expertise.
  • Reviewing and approving work outputs.
  • Delivering technical expertise for various studies and design initiatives.
  • Presenting complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Conducting quality control assessments of work produced by team members.
  • Contributing to the development of technical proposals.
  • Estimating engineering budgets and schedules for large projects.
  • Offering technical leadership in CCR ash basin closure, landfill design, and related regulatory, planning, design, and construction projects.
  • Maintaining existing client relationships through successful project execution.
  • Developing new client connections and expanding the CCR and Geotechnical practice across the state and region.
  • Serving as both project manager and program manager.
  • Participating in client meetings and coordinating with diverse project teams.
  • Engaging in national organizations on behalf of AECOM as appropriate.
  • Leading client development and design initiatives while recruiting new talent to enhance AECOM's team.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in NC or the ability to obtain it through reciprocity.
  • Willingness to travel within the Southeastern United States to visit team locations, client sites, and regulatory agencies.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License, with a requirement to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 7+ years of progressive engineering and project management experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant project experience in Civil design, CCR, or Geotechnical Engineering projects related to solid waste disposal, CCR management, dams, and impoundments.
  • Experience in Business Development and Client Relationship Management.
  • Background as a technical contributor on general civil and/or remediation projects.
  • Ability to proactively assist in technical efforts and support project team members.
  • Experience with large-scale projects.
  • Familiarity with storage tank, manufactured gas plant, renewable energy, landfill, and/or air projects.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification.
  • Construction 30 certification.
  • Significant experience in a project manager and client contact role.
  • Confidence to work independently to produce high-quality deliverables on time and within budget.
