Job Summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking qualified candidates for the Metrobus Operator Training Program. As a Student Bus Operator, you will attend and successfully complete the WMATA bus operator training course, learning to operate commercial passenger buses on scheduled routes across the metropolitan area and provide courteous and professional customer service to passengers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend and complete the WMATA bus operator training course, including classroom study, on-route training, driving experience, and resources necessary to take and pass the state CDL examination.
  • Learn to perform pre- and post-operation inspection of assigned vehicles to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures, including monitoring the condition of assigned vehicles to ensure they are operationally ready at all times.
  • Learn to safely operate a passenger bus along designated routes, read route descriptions, and provide each customer with stellar customer service.
  • Complete and submit accident and incident reports in accordance with established guidelines.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Learner's Permit with Passenger Bus and Air Brakes endorsement.
  • Have a driving record reflecting no more than two moving violations and no suspension or revocation due to moving violations within the last three years.
Evaluation Criteria

Consideration will be given to applicants whose resumes demonstrate the required education and experience. Evaluation criteria may include skills and/or behavioral assessment, personal interview, verification of education and experience, criminal background check, medical examination, and review of a current motor vehicle report.
