Job Summary

The Brooklyn Public Library is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees and customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas of the library buildings and grounds to provide a safe and secure environment
  • Provide quality customer service and information to employees and customers
  • Conduct package inspections for visitors entering the building
  • Lock up and secure premises and contents within the building
  • Notify appropriate agencies and individuals in the event of an emergency
  • Aid sick and injured persons and complete incident reports
  • Make rounds throughout the building location and monitor security systems
  • Write reports and inform appropriate departments on fire and safety issues
  • Ability to work at multiple locations
Requirements
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required, some college a plus
  • A valid New York State Driver's license
  • Prior peace officer experience and completion of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Basic Peace Officer course preferred
  • NYCFD, Fire Guard/Fire Drill Conductor certification is preferred
  • A minimum of at least 1 year of security-related experience and a valid New York State security guard license
  • Must meet physical and medical requirements
  • Extensive walking, standing, and moving about for long periods of time
  • Must be able to confront and deescalate problems and conflict
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal (oral and written) skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Ability to work all shifts, including holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Additional Requirements
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Reside in one of the 5 boroughs
  • No felony or misdemeanor arrest/convictions
  • U.S. Citizen
