Senior General Ledger Accountant

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a seasoned Senior General Ledger Accountant to enhance our accounting department and contribute to our organizational goals. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance within our public sector framework. The Senior General Ledger Accountant will operate under the guidance of the Director of Finance, focusing on the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, overseeing payroll processes, and delivering financial insights to our member communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties represent the core responsibilities of this position, though they are not exhaustive. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their capability to fulfill these essential functions:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive narratives for each general ledger account.
  • Allocate expenses accurately to the corresponding general ledger accounts.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations between our enterprise and accounting systems.
  • Reconcile designated balance sheet accounts and provide necessary documentation.
  • Align current and historical invoices with the relevant capital assets and general ledger.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of capital asset accounting software, ensuring effective communication between systems.
  • Manage payroll processing for the organization and its associated communities.
  • Collaborate with payroll vendors to guarantee timely and precise filing of federal and state reports.
  • Oversee benefits premium payments to vendors and ensure reconciliation with the general ledger.
  • Serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries.
  • Offer financial oversight and advisory services to member communities.
  • Communicate financial concepts clearly to member communities for better understanding.
  • Deliver exceptional financial customer service to member communities.
  • Advise communities on financial matters that may affect their operations.
  • Assist in the formulation of the annual budget.
  • Support the completion of the annual audit process.
  • Present proposed budgets at board meetings and address budget-related inquiries.
  • Prepare various studies, reports, and relevant information to aid decision-making.
  • Establish and uphold internal control procedures and conduct periodic internal audits.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), particularly in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
  • Effective budgeting principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Accounting principles related to all Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements.
  • Functions of an accounting department.
  • Effective communication methods and public relations strategies.
  • Coordination of independent audit activities from the client perspective.
  • Relevant state and federal regulations and policies.
  • State fiscal procedures and guidelines.
Skills and Abilities to:
  • Conduct thorough analyses for complex journal entries and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and documentation.
  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Perform financial analysis and interpretation effectively.
  • Utilize financial database programs proficiently.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements in procedures and financial processes.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Engage effectively with individuals at various organizational levels while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Plan, organize, and execute tasks efficiently, even under pressure.
  • Act independently, exercising sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and creative skills, making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, along with three (3) years of relevant experience. Education cannot substitute for the required experience.
  • CPA designation is preferred.

SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday
PAY: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually, based on experience.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt (Salary)
