Physical Requirements: Occasionally lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50lbs; occasionally standing or walking with objects up to 10lbs; intermittently working at heights above 4 feet; regularly working at a computer for extended periods of time.

Ability to travel to various locations on and off-campus to provide service and attend meetings.

Shift: Primarily Monday – Friday; 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. May need to work outside these hours as needed based on project requirements. Days, Evenings, Weekends, Holidays as needed.

Job Summary: The University of Kentucky Police Department is expanding its Technical Division by adding Physical Security Technicians.

The Physical Security Technician will report directly to the UKPD Program Manager.

Responsibilities: The technician will be tasked with project installation, preventive maintenance, and upkeep of the university's central security system.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting regular preventive maintenance on electronic security devices.
  • Documenting maintenance tasks and providing reports to the program manager.
  • Offering maintenance and customer support related to physical security devices on campus.

This work will be managed through a ticketing system and scheduled by the program manager.

The technician will collaborate with UK-PPD and UKITS when necessary to troubleshoot devices and coordinate additional support.

Electronic security devices include: access control panels, reader interface boards, panic alarms, and emergency towers.

This position requires travel to various university building locations as needed.

Note: There are multiple openings for the Physical Security Technician role. To be considered for each position, applicants must submit separate applications.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
