POSITION OBJECTIVE
The main responsibility of this Engineer is to enhance and maintain financial, clinical, informational, and infrastructural Systems/Platforms that deliver optimal services to business clients. Additionally, a Junior Web Systems Optimization Engineer collaborates with Product Engineering, Product Management, and Enterprise Information Security to ensure a smooth transition of new products and designs into Service Optimization.
The Junior Web Systems Optimization Engineer acts as the operational subject matter expert, working alongside other teams within the TIS Product Centric Organization to support and enhance technology-driven business solutions. This encompasses applications and infrastructure utilizing Trinity Enterprise Data Centers and Cloud resources (i.e., PaaS, IaaS, and SaaS), serving as a specialized technology support expert for specific platforms.
Moreover, the Junior Web Systems Optimization Engineer plays a lead and/or supportive role in the operation and enhancement of platforms, products, and applications within their teams, as well as managing how these applications interact with other teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Management:
- Oversee Unix/Linux and Windows server environments.
- Establish and uphold security protocols, including SSL/TLS, RSA encryption, chain of trust, and two-way handshake.
- Create and manage certificates/keys using tools like OpenSSL and Keygen for both internal and external CAs.
- Server Management:
- Set up and manage web servers (IIS, Apache, etc.).
- Configure, manage, and optimize application servers (IBM WebSphere, WebLogic, Oracle App Server, Tomcat, JBoss, .Net, etc.) for peak performance.
- Web Development & Issue Resolution:
- Possess knowledge and experience in troubleshooting web applications using HTML, PHP, JavaScript, Java, and ASP.
- Effectively resolve web application and networking challenges.
- Address Java/JVM issues and adjust JVM parameters for improved performance.
- Networking:
- Understand IP addressing and subnets for enhanced network efficiency.
- Experience in managing and troubleshooting transport protocols, IP stack, routing, and DNS.
- CI/CD and Automation:
- Utilize and manage CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitLab, and Bamboo.
- Automate tasks and streamline processes using scripting languages like Bash, PowerShell, and Python.
- Embrace and exemplify the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in actions, practices, and decisions.
- Deliver high-level technical support for platform and product designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams (Product Engineering, Product Management, Business Owners, etc.) to ensure successful deployment of any design or product.
- Monitor and evaluate the current state of platforms to ensure performance remains within established thresholds.
- Work with vendors and other teams regarding products, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation.
- Suggest procedures and solutions to ensure the team operates at the highest possible level with minimal costs.
- Implement platform technology in alignment with established platform strategies.
- Identify, escalate, and support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability, and service quality.
- Engage in research and provide recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards to support all infrastructure procurement and development efforts.
- Reduce operational and capital costs by minimizing inefficiencies in the environment.
- Stay updated on current best practices, participating in continuing education and seminars.
- Conduct environment capacity planning and performance monitoring on all platform hardware, ensuring all hardware and software are covered by 24x7x365 maintenance contracts.
- Act as the first level for troubleshooting and escalation of critical issues, providing 24x7x365 support for all teams and resolving critical problems.
- Utilize software and hardware tools to diagnose and resolve issues affecting performance and service levels, applying specialized technical knowledge of enterprise tools.
- Ensure all hardware and software operate at an optimized level.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and testing of installations and upgrades to existing solutions.
- Engage in data migration and lifecycle projects.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and exercises, ensuring documentation is maintained and meets requirements.
- Accountable for the security configuration of supported solutions, ensuring they are current. Oversee the implementation of security controls, governance processes, and compliance validation.
- Responsible for supporting and interpreting architectural designs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws/regulations, the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program, and Code of Conduct, ensuring adherence in a manner that reflects honesty, ethics, and professionalism.
- Demonstrated experience in network configuration and management.
- Proficient in Unix/Linux and Windows system administration.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and certificate/key management.
- Experience with web and application server configuration and administration.
- Knowledgeable in web programming and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Java/JVM performance tuning.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and scripting languages.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with five (5) years of progressive experience, with expertise in hardware, software, application, and systems engineering within specific IT disciplines (i.e., strategic planning, solution engineering, technology engineering, network management, security management, change management, application development, middleware design, information analysis, database management, project management, and operations management). An equivalent combination of education will be considered.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and serve as a subject matter expert to team members, mentoring less experienced colleagues and offering training on system functionality and software products.
- Comprehensive skills in technical documentation, DevOps, and ITIL concepts.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms or software as a service applications (SaaS applications).
- Familiarity with security concepts and hands-on experience in implementing security controls and compliance requirements. Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
