Why Pediatrics?

As a Research Associate at UT Southwestern Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to work with mice, utilizing surgical techniques and genotyping methods. Your experience in microbiology techniques, including microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry, will be valuable assets in this role.

Experience and Education

To be successful in this position, you will need a Master's degree with major coursework in a relevant field and three years of laboratory experience, including at least two years at the level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with major coursework in a relevant field and four years of laboratory experience, including two years at the level of Research Assistant II or equivalent, will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This role requires a thorough knowledge of various types of equipment used in the laboratory, as well as extreme accuracy in all phases of research and experimental investigation. You will need to exercise considerable judgment in applying policy, procedures, or techniques to work problems.

Job Duties

As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for recommending and/or initiating new or modified procedures and techniques based on the latest developments in your assigned field or analysis of research data. You will also perform computer programming for the accumulation and analysis of research data, design, construct, repair, or modify electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects, and instruct medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.

You may also provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in the performance of a variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks. Additionally, you will assist the principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing reports and papers for publication.
