Mammography Technologist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Mammography Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Mammography Technologist will perform diagnostic mammographic exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment. The successful candidate will verify patient identity, review patient medical records, and interview patients to obtain medical history and assess risk factors.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic mammographic exams using appropriate imaging equipment
  • Verify patient identity and review patient medical records
  • Interview patients to obtain medical history and assess risk factors
  • Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of pharmaceuticals and risks
  • Set up equipment and acquire images as per script
  • Review images, make initial observations, and document exceptions from established protocols
  • Communicate data to radiologists and recognize/respond to medical emergencies
  • Provide post-care instructions to patients and participate in process improvement activities
  • Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists, and new employees
Requirements
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (M)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training
  • Analytical and clinical skills necessary to determine the most age-appropriate method of providing radiographs
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients and hospital personnel
  • Technical knowledge necessary to operate equipment, including specialized equipment and computers
  • Ability to work productively and effectively in a complex environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of American College of Radiology and MQSA requirements for accreditation
Working Conditions

The Mammography Technologist will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. The successful candidate will be able to stand, bend, push, pull, reach, and lift to provide patient care.
