Duties:


Ensures the sterilization and control of supplies and equipment by adhering to AAMI, Federal regulations, and AORN Standards. This includes cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, quality control/verification of process, package, storage, recall due to process failure, and implants.

Operates sterilizers or equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations, disassembles and reassembles equipment/instrument trays, and performs daily and/or load biological testing of sterilizers.

Monitors tray and instrumentation optimization to increase efficiency of sterilization and length of life of instrumentation.

Assists in maintaining the sterility of supply of indicators, rotating stock by disposing or reprocessing contaminated or outdated sterile goods, and assures proper storage and transport of sterile goods.

Notifies charge Nurse/Nurse Manager of any contaminated loads for recall procedure.

Demonstrates knowledge of asepsis and sterilization methods with the ability to understand basic medical and surgical terminology, therapeutic practices for human anatomy and physiology.

Operates and troubleshoots equipment used for sterile process and completes required documentation.

Qualifications:

Minimum of twenty-four (24) months relevant experience within the last thirty-six (36) months.

Must read, understand, speak, and write English to effectively communicate with patients and other health care workers, and be respectful of the local, American Indian, and Alaska Native Culture.

Education/Certification:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
