Job Overview

The Industrial Metals Scrap Buyer plays a crucial role in acquiring scrap metal materials from various local and regional sources, including scrap yards and industrial accounts. This position demands an individual who is proactive and possesses a robust work ethic, as building and nurturing strong business relationships with both new and existing suppliers is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procure scrap materials to achieve volume objectives while maximizing profit margins.
  • Engage with dealers and industrial suppliers through both phone and in-person interactions to foster new business opportunities, ensure repeat transactions, provide exceptional customer service, address inquiries, resolve complaints, and cultivate strong relationships.
  • Establish pricing structures for individual accounts and adjust them as necessary in response to fluctuating market conditions.
  • Coordinate logistics with suppliers and support the internal logistics team in the delivery and collection of materials, equipment, and roll-off containers when applicable.
  • Develop and maintain a network of dependable industry contacts to stay informed about buying and selling prices and trends in local and regional markets.
  • Leverage knowledge of yard operations and processing to make informed and cost-effective pricing decisions.
  • Stay updated on competitive activities affecting our accounts and devise strategies to mitigate account loss.
  • Collaborate with administrative personnel and the trading team to ensure precise and timely documentation of all purchasing activities.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in sales, marketing, or customer service within the metals sector.
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong mathematical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

Proficiency in identifying various metal alloys is also essential.
