Specialty Mechanical Engineer, Level III

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is a premier government contractor seeking highly motivated and well-qualified personnel to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex and the Pantex Plant.
Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, responsible for advancing Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, essential to national security.
Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff.
Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.
Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements, including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
ResponsibilitiesSpecialty Mechanical Engineers will produce design and procurement documents of specialty and first-of-a-kind equipment, including gloveboxes, furnaces, high vacuum systems, and metal casting/machining equipment.
- Development of build-to-print design drawings
- Development of equipment specifications
- Associated calculations and analysis associated with machine design, including finite element analysis, structural and seismic analysis, ergonomic studies, kinematic calculations, and heat transfer calculations
- Development of procurement documents
BA/BS Degree in Engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited university.
Experience in the design/specification of custom mechanical equipment.
Years of direct experience.
Preferred requirements for this position include:
- Experience in 3D engineering/modeling and machine design experience, preferably with gloveboxes, furnaces, high vacuum systems, and metal casting/machining equipment
- Experience with engineering calculations/analysis associated with machine design, including finite element analysis, structural and seismic analysis, ergonomic studies, kinematic calculations, and heat transfer calculations
- Experience writing equipment fabrication specifications for specialty-designed equipment
- Experience leading multi-discipline machine design efforts and producing build-to-print equipment fabrication packages, including fabrication drawings, specifications, calculations, etc.
The ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance is required.
Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
Medical Exam(s) - Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy.
