Job Summary

Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Lead Substation Site-Civil Engineer to manage our site/civil department in our growing Framingham, MA office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading site/civil design engineering for various electric utility projects.

Typical projects involve site/civil design engineering for both large and small scale utility projects. Candidates with commercial/industrial site development experience will also be considered for the position.

As a Lead Engineer, you will primarily function as a lead engineer performing design reviews, leading projects, overseeing junior staff members, and contributing to bids and proposal development.

This role will also consist of taking a responsible engineer role on main client projects, overseeing the work and ensuring quality control on design packages.

Site-visits to client substation facilities are expected to be part of the work, along with occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events.

Experience in front-facing client operations such as lunch and learns, and kick-off meetings is preferred.

Candidate must comply with quality control and safe work practices and maintain compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.

This position will be a lead role in a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians.

The ideal candidate will have a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and 8+ years of directly applicable civil-site design experience. Management experience is preferred, and a P.E. license is also preferred.

The successful candidate will have experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and/or MicroStation OpenSite Designer software, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other general software tools.

Strong analytical and technical writing skills are required, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.

Able to execute projects and handle clients successfully with limited supervision, the ideal candidate will also be willing to travel up to 25%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Land development permitting including NPDES, stormwater management, and knowledge of other typical local, state, and/or federal regulations and permit requirements
  • Research additional site data through various sources
  • Site layout, grading, and drainage design
  • Stormwater modeling and design
  • Erosion and sediment control design
  • Access road design
  • Utility coordination and design
  • Retaining wall layout and design
  • Documentation of all supporting calculations
  • Quantity take-offs
  • Construction drawings
  • Construction specifications

Required Experience & Education:

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
  • Engineer with 8+ years of directly applicable civil-site design experience
  • Management experience preferred
  • P.E. license preferred

  • Experience with Hydraflow, ICPR, and various other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling & design programs
