Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in performing ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians. Your expertise will be essential in obtaining diagnostic information to aid in patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the ultrasound procedure, and answer questions to ensure a comfortable and informed experience.
  • Equipment Selection: Choose the appropriate machine and probe to obtain diagnostic information requested by the referring physician.
  • Image Acquisition: Apply gel to the patient's skin, apply the probe, and monitor equipment to obtain high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Image Review: Process film and review images to confirm they meet radiologists' requirements.
  • Initial Diagnosis: Prepare an initial diagnosis by identifying abnormal conditions for review by the radiologist.
  • Procedure Assistance: Use ultrasound equipment to assist providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain equipment and examination rooms, store film, and manage related supplies.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
  • Education: Completion of an ARDMS-accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology.
  • Certifications: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients, as well as perform manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination tasks.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications: Certifications such as breast or RVT preferred.
