About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Materials Engineer to join our Core Systems Testing unit at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting research and testing of nuclear fuel and cladding materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct irradiation test programs on current and advanced nuclear systems
  • Work with various engineering groups, laboratories, and test facilities to design and execute experiments
  • Develop and implement test proposals, test planning, and specimen design
  • Perform finite element modeling and Monte Carlo prediction of irradiation exposure
  • Analyze and report results, and make presentations to stakeholders
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Experience in materials testing and characterization, including mechanical testing, metallography, and electron microscopy
  • Knowledge of thermal, structural, or nuclear analyses of materials and components
  • Experience with project management, statistics, and design of experiments
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information both verbally and in writing
