We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Materials Engineer to join our Core Systems Testing unit at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting research and testing of nuclear fuel and cladding materials.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct irradiation test programs on current and advanced nuclear systems
- Work with various engineering groups, laboratories, and test facilities to design and execute experiments
- Develop and implement test proposals, test planning, and specimen design
- Perform finite element modeling and Monte Carlo prediction of irradiation exposure
- Analyze and report results, and make presentations to stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- Experience in materials testing and characterization, including mechanical testing, metallography, and electron microscopy
- Knowledge of thermal, structural, or nuclear analyses of materials and components
- Experience with project management, statistics, and design of experiments
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information both verbally and in writing
- Competitive salary range: $62,000 - $94,900 annually
