Position Overview

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated research interns to contribute to the realization of the CCI xG Testbed Vision, focusing on innovative wireless communication networks and autonomous systems. This role is part of a prestigious research group recognized globally for its expertise in cybersecurity, intelligence, and autonomous systems tailored for critical industrial applications. The selected candidate will engage in collaborative efforts with fellow researchers at Virginia Tech and external partners from academia, government, and industry. This internship presents a remarkable opportunity for students eager to enhance their practical experience in a cutting-edge research environment.

The intern will join CCI's skilled xG Testbed research team, guided by Dr. Aloizio DaSilva, to undertake pioneering and significant projects in various domains, including traditional computer networking, wireless infrastructure, and Software Defined Radio technologies for cellular communication. Responsibilities will encompass supporting proof-of-concept initiatives, managing laboratory resources daily, configuring and deploying both software and hardware solutions, and enhancing functionalities on the CCI xG Testbed website.

Essential Qualifications

- Proficiency in computer networking and wireless communication
- Familiarity with software development languages (e.g., C, C++, Java, Python, MatLab)
- Current enrollment as a junior or senior undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Desirable Qualifications

- Knowledge in areas such as signal propagation, 5G technologies (including network virtualization, mobile edge computing, cloud computing), Internet of Things, radio communication, machine learning, and a solid understanding of computer networking principles.

Compensation and Employment Details

- Pay Band: 4
- Appointment Type: Restricted
- Hourly Rate: $20.00
