Job Title: Host/Hostess

We are seeking a friendly and welcoming Host/Hostess to join our team at One World Observatory. As a Host/Hostess, you will be the first point of contact for our guests and will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:
  • Welcome and greet guests upon arrival
  • Manage the efficient and timely seating of guests
  • Provide guidance to guests on dining options and general information about New York City
  • Utilize electronic table management system to monitor dining room and guest flow
  • Explain the restaurant concept to guests
  • Record guest names and number of people in party when immediate seating is unavailable
  • Be knowledgeable about the floor plan, server station assignments, and table numbers
  • Provide guests with estimated wait times
  • Always maintain a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile or impatient guests
  • Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible
  • Seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations
  • Offer guests menus and inform them of their server's name
  • Inspect tables for proper presentation and completeness
  • Relay messages to servers and bus-persons as needed
  • Relay guest comments or suggestions to the manager on duty
  • Maintain supplies at the host stand
  • Clean menus of food and/or stains
  • Keep work area, including storage areas, clean and organized
  • Perform general cleaning and sanitizing tasks to adhere to health and safety standards
  • Attend mandatory meetings
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return
  • Complete other duties as assigned by leadership
Requirements:
  • At least one year experience in the food and beverage industry
  • Fluency in multiple languages
  • Must be personable, friendly and welcoming
  • Ability to work extended hours and flexible shifts including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and to walk to and from the host stand multiple times while on shift
  • Knowledgeable of electronic reservation systems (preferably OpenTable)
  • Great communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene and a well-groomed appearance per appearance policy
  • Ability to work independently or in a team during set up and execution of service
  • Willingness and drive to exceed guest expectations
  • Ability to effectively listen and take direction/instruction
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team and guests
  • Excellent knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service standards
  • Ability to handle challenges (including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving as necessary)
  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs on an occasional basis
Compensation:

$20.00/hour + generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan.

Working Conditions:

On-Site. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands to finger, and handle controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
