Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing services and administer medications and treatments in accordance with physicians' orders, within state licensure regulations and consistent with facility nursing standards.
- Monitor and manage the quality measures and indicators of the community.
- Plan, develop, direct, and evaluate Educational and Clinical Training programs in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local Regulation for SNF staff.
- Plan, organize, budget, coordinate, evaluate, and develop policies for facility's risk management systems in accordance with current federal, state, and local standard, guidelines, and regulations to protect residents, staff, and facility from loss.
- Monitor residents within state licensure regulations; may supervise and direct resident assistants where allowed by state licensure regulations.
- Assist in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment in the best interest of residents.
- Obtain and administer medication and treatments, as prescribed by physician.
- Document and review medication and treatment sheets for accuracy and compliance with physician orders, professional standards, federal and state regulations, and company policies.
- Assist in implementing and revising service plans or resident care plans based on resident needs.
- Monitor responses to treatment plans.
- Possess knowledge of medication interactions and notify Resident Care Coordinator and Director of any occurrences.
- Plan and organize quality control programs and activities.
- Maintain library of quality control and assessment materials necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and maintaining quality resident care.
- Oversee the Infection Control Program of the facility and devise infection control reports for submission to Director, Clinical Services, and Quality Assurance Committee.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations and infection control standards.
- Direct and coordinate all in-service educational programs of the facility in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local Regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and direct orientation programs for skilled nursing personnel.
- Conduct regular or special in-services for staff to ensure they remain current on new procedures.
- Develop, maintain, and secure records, reports, and instructional manuals, reference materials, pertinent to in-service programs.
- Use facility consultants and others for special in-services.
- Plan, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility's risk management programs and activities in accordance with guidelines issued by the governing board and administrator.
- Investigate all allegations of misconduct.
- Notify appropriate personnel of the investigation.
- Report findings to the administrator and other appropriate personnel in accordance with state and federal law.
- Ensure appropriate professional staff maintains adequate liability insurance.
- Ensure licensure and background checks are conducted in accordance with company policies.
- Assist in developing and implementing plans of correction for cited deficiencies.
- Ensure such plans incorporate timetables and methods of monitoring to prevent such deficiencies from reoccurring.
- Ensure all personnel attend and participate in annual in-service training programs relative to hazard communication.
- Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service programs of the Department.
- Assist the staff in setting educational goals.
- Meet with supervisors on a regular basis to solicit advice concerning training needs and assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
- Count controlled substances with off-going nurse or resident assistant; secure and correct reconciliation of controlled substances during shift.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of medicine supply room and security of discontinued medicine in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policy.
- Assist with discharge process relevant to medication/treatment orders.
- Gather and analyze resident outcomes through tracking and trending to identify root cause and determine appropriate interventions.
- Provide recommendations and reports to management, as necessary/required, concerning quality control programs and processes.
- Makes recommendations to facility management to reduce the frequency and severity of medical malpractice and resident/staff injury claims.
- Report all accidents and incidents to appropriate agencies and facility management within established time frames.
- Work with community management, public agencies, insurance adjusters, attorneys, and claimants to obtain and provide information necessary to resolve disputes.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Education as required to obtain state RN license.
- One (1) year of full-time nursing experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care to the aged/chronically ill in a long-term care facility and one (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in the nursing field.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid license to practice as an RN.
- Basic CPR/first aid training.
- Fire safety training.
- Must possess a current Health Care Risk Manager license in FL or meet state-specific licensure requirements.
