Job Summary

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine seeks a highly skilled Nurse Educator to join our team in the Cardiology/Neurology Intensive Care department. As a Nurse Educator, you will play a critical role in supporting and implementing educational programs for nursing and clinical staff, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Nurse Educators and Managers to develop and implement unit-based educational programs, identifying practice gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Design and Deliver Educational Activities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills, or practice.
  • Create a Learning Environment by collaborating with practitioners, leaders, nurses, educators, patient care staff, and unit management to provide continuing nursing education and in-services.
  • Coordinate Education and Competency Development for patient care staff, ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Document and Support Competency and address competency deficits in staff members and teams.
  • Support Onboarding and Orientation of licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel, focusing on retention and growth.
  • Facilitate Unit-Based Orientation of licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel during onboarding and when changes in roles, responsibilities, and practice settings occur.
  • Develop and Coordinate Onboarding and Orientation Programs for unit-based licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel, working with the Professional Development Department.
  • Maintain Professional Knowledge by partnering with individuals, groups, and/or organizations to share expertise in planning and decision-making to achieve common goals.
  • Participate in Continuing Education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops to stay current in the field.
  • Adhere to University and Unit-Level Policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certification and Licensing: Valid Florida RN license.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of Educator or Preceptor experience, with 7.5 years of recent experience in the specialty preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes: Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others; ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment; ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions; ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form; ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
