Position Overview:
As a Cytology Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Screening and assessing gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens submitted to the laboratory for the identification of potential malignant or abnormal conditions.
  • Conducting screening of all liquid-based cytology, both manual and imaged, in addition to conventional slides.
  • Performing microscopic evaluations of cytological specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols and workload policies.
  • Ensuring meticulous documentation of workload recording, including both screening and non-screening activities as mandated by CLIA and laboratory standards.
  • Upholding the highest standards of integrity in the accurate execution and reporting of results.
  • Meeting slide screening criteria as outlined in standard operating procedures.
  • Finalizing testing results in the laboratory information system promptly and accurately.
  • Providing support for cytology processing and other related tasks as necessary.
  • Adhering to all safety, infection control, and HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Cytology program.
  • ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in Cytology is preferred.
  • ThinPrep certification is required.
  • Ability to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency assessments.
  • A solid understanding of cytological preparation techniques.
  • Experience with both automated and non-automated testing is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Capability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision assessment.
