Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician-Staff Pathologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our pathology department, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive pathology care to our patients, including surgical, cytology, autopsy, and clinical pathology services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality pathology services, including surgical, cytology, autopsy, and clinical pathology.
  • Collaborate with our Chief of Pathology to ensure seamless patient care and meet the VA mission.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, including tumor boards and other relevant meetings.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives to enhance pathology services.
  • Provide educational interactions and training to pathology staff, including technicians, transcriptionists, technologists, supervisors, lab managers, and administrative staff.
  • Meet turnaround time requirements for surgical, cytology, autopsy, and clinical pathology cases.
  • Represent Pathology on medical center committees and participate in departmental meetings, QA processes, and task delegation.
  • Provide support and educational interactions to pathology staff, including technicians, transcriptionists, technologists, supervisors, lab managers, and administrative staff.
Requirements
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
  • Expertise in transfusion medicine with formal fellowship training in transfusion medicine and board certification/eligibility in Transfusion Medicine (American Board of Pathology) is desired.
  • Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology Board Certification (CP required, additional AP preferred).
  • Anatomic pathology subspecialty certificate or fellowship: a. Hematopathology b. Derm, GI, GU, or GYN fellowship c. Cytopathology.
  • At least 3-5 years postgraduate anatomic pathology experience preferred.
Work Environment

This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status. VA encourages persons with disabilities to apply. The health-related positions in VA are covered by Title 38, and are not covered by the Schedule A excepted appointment authority.
