Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team in the Department of Entomology at Virginia Tech. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for coordinating research efforts, measuring and analyzing features of individual mussels and stream reaches, and modeling mussel functions across different spatial and temporal scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate research efforts across team members to achieve project goals
  • Measure and analyze features of individual mussels, mussel beds, and stream reaches to describe the role mussels play in stream ecosystem function
  • Model mussel functions across mussel densities at different spatial and temporal scales

Requirements

  • PhD in biology, ecology, ecohydrology, biogeochemistry, zoology, or related discipline with emphasis on aquatic ecosystems
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity, including peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong statistical modeling and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency working with biogeochemical modeling
  • Working knowledge of geographic information systems
  • Experience mentoring students
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
