Position Responsibilities

The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division is tasked with developing and applying a wide range of engineering capabilities to deliver innovative solutions that support the laboratory's scientific and national security objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing engineering activities across various disciplines for projects, ensuring adherence to established standards and practices.
  • Managing external design contracts, coordinating deliverables, and facilitating design progress through regular team meetings.
  • Administering internal design schedules, assessing staffing needs, and ensuring quality control throughout the design process.
  • Estimating project costs in collaboration with the Engineering Services team.
  • Coordinating technical requirements for construction, including managing interfaces between designers and constructors.
  • Collaborating with project teams to ensure effective project closeout, including documentation and compliance with engineering policies.
  • Planning and forecasting engineering resources to meet project demands, while monitoring progress against schedules and budgets.
  • Engaging with regulatory representatives to address permitting and compliance issues.
  • Resolving technical challenges in the field and providing innovative solutions that comply with relevant codes and standards.
  • Recommending personnel assignments and specialized services to engineering management.
Qualifications

Project Engineer III: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Project Engineer IV: Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.

Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse work environment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-placement physical examination, including drug screening.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in engineering design processes and industry standards.
  • Experience in project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design and construction practices.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and cost control methods.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with DOE sites and programs.
  • Professional registration as an engineer or architect.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Certification in Earned Value Management systems.
