Overview

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering direct patient care services across various settings. This includes comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and treatment planning tailored to meet the functional needs of each patient. The role also involves developing programs, evaluating patient responses to therapy, and adjusting treatment plans as necessary. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, is essential to ensure coordinated care for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the occupational therapy services for patients, encompassing all aspects of care such as screening, examination, evaluation, and treatment planning.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations to interpret findings and determine the extent of dysfunction related to medical conditions, aiming to restore patients' abilities to perform daily activities.
  • Create individualized care plans that align with established goals, taking into account the patient's age, medical history, and specific dysfunctions.
  • Develop and implement exercise programs and patient care initiatives.
  • Exhibit professional expertise and clinical judgment in assessing patients throughout all stages of occupational therapy.
  • Ensure safety by taking necessary precautions based on the patient's age, medical history, and treatment type.
  • Regularly reassess clinical indicators to evaluate treatment effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to goals and plans.
  • Deliver direct treatment to patients as part of the therapy program.
  • May delegate specific treatment tasks to qualified support personnel.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare staff in coordinating treatment plans and discharge processes.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients and their families regarding therapy and care.
  • Discharge patients from therapy services when skilled intervention is no longer required, ensuring clinical appropriateness.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, maintaining cleanliness and reporting any equipment issues as per departmental guidelines.
  • Document therapy services accurately and timely in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Work closely with management to fulfill all compliance obligations.
  • May require training to cater to a diverse patient population based on the needs of the healthcare facility.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants in both patient-related and non-patient-related tasks.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service in all interactions, aligning with the organization's principles of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the educational requirements necessary for licensure as a registered Occupational Therapist.
  • A minimum of 2-3 months of experience in direct patient care is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California Occupational Therapist License upon hire.
  • Current National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
