Overview

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for delivering direct patient care services across various settings. This includes comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and the development of treatment plans tailored to meet the functional needs of patients. The role also involves program development, evaluating patient responses to care, and adjusting treatment plans as necessary. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, is essential to ensure coordinated care for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the occupational therapy services for patients, encompassing all facets of care such as screening, examination, evaluation, care planning, treatment implementation, reassessment, and discharge planning.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations to interpret examination findings, identifying the nature and extent of dysfunction in patients with medical conditions that affect their ability to perform daily activities.
  • Develop individualized plans of care aimed at achieving specific goals based on the patient's age, medical history, and identified dysfunctions.
  • Administer or design exercise programs and patient care initiatives to enhance recovery.
  • Exhibit professional competence and clinical reasoning throughout all phases of skilled occupational therapy.
  • Implement safety precautions tailored to the patient's age, medical history, and treatment type.
  • Regularly reassess clinical signs and symptoms to evaluate treatment effectiveness and make necessary modifications to the treatment plan.
  • Deliver direct treatment to patients as part of the established program.
  • May delegate certain aspects of the treatment plan to qualified support personnel.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in coordinating treatment plans and discharge processes.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients and their families regarding care and recovery.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of therapy services in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in mandatory compliance training and maintain cleanliness and functionality of assigned areas and equipment.
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistants in patient-related and non-patient-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the educational requirements necessary for licensure as a registered Occupational Therapist in the State of California.
  • A minimum of 2-3 months of experience in direct patient care is preferred.
  • Possession of a California Occupational Therapist License upon hire.
  • Current National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
