Public Health Ambassador for Disaster Resilience
18 hours ago
AmeriCorps, in partnership with the American Red Cross, offers a unique opportunity to serve as a Public Health Ambassador for Disaster Resilience. This role is designed for individuals passionate about community outreach and education, with a focus on building resilience in vulnerable communities.
The AmeriCorps program is a national service initiative that aims to address critical community needs through volunteer engagement and emergency readiness education. As a Public Health Ambassador, you will play a vital role in delivering preparedness presentations and hands-only CPR instruction to communities in need.
Salary and BenefitsThis full-time position comes with a bi-weekly stipend of $869.57, paid every other Friday. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive a $3,697.50 education award to pay off student loans or towards new education costs. Additionally, you may qualify for health care and dental coverage - we cover the monthly premiums, as well as student loan forbearance for federal student loans and child care assistance.
Job DescriptionAs a Public Health Ambassador, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting outreach within communities to recruit volunteers and engage them in disaster resiliency efforts.
- Assisting volunteers in navigating the onboarding process to become Red Cross volunteers.
- Delivering preparedness presentations and hands-only CPR instruction to community members.
- Serving as a liaison between the community and the Red Cross to support recovery efforts following public health and disaster-related emergencies.
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people both digitally and in-person.
- Experience working with volunteers, with a willingness to serve outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines.
- Passion for community outreach and education, with a focus on building resilience in vulnerable communities.
In addition to the salary and benefits mentioned earlier, serving with AmeriCorps offers invaluable experience with a nationally and internationally respected organization. You will have the opportunity to build your network and accrue professional development skills, including communication, project management, leadership ability, and interpersonal effectiveness. Furthermore, you will have access to extensive opportunities for Red Cross and public health training, helping you to grow both personally and professionally.
