About the Role

This position is responsible for conducting field monitoring and sampling activities for the Industrial Waste program. The Compliance Specialist II will work with industrial users to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for conducting sampling efforts independently at various industrial facilities and have the skills and abilities to work collaboratively as a sampling team member.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute industrial waste sampling and monitoring activities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Evaluate and monitor industrial discharges and analytical data, recognizing violations and reporting them to industry representatives and Industrial Waste Compliance Investigators.
  • Procure sampling equipment and associated supplies, maintaining equipment purchase, maintenance, and calibration logs and records.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with industrial waste customers at field locations in the King County service area, collaborating with peers in the KCIW unit and staff at the environmental lab.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience conducting field sampling and monitoring work associated with industrial waste pretreatment programs or a related environmental field.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety hazards associated with environmental sampling.
  • Demonstrated skill in using computers and software programs such as databases, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Skill in operating, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting sampling equipment.
  • Skill in dealing effectively with groups or individuals in difficult circumstances.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships with co-workers and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industrial waste pretreatment programs experience conducting field sampling and monitoring work.
Work Environment

This position will primarily conduct sampling and monitoring at industrial facilities throughout the WTD service area, with field work reporting requirements typically 4-5 days per week. Remote work from a home location is available when not conducting field work or other work at the King County Environmental Lab.
