About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Safety Engineer to join our team at Raytheon Careers. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our software systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform in-depth analysis of software and firmware to identify potential safety risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with program management and government approval authorities to gain concurrence with software builds and ensure safety program compliance.
  • Develop and maintain software safety plans, procedures, and documentation to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on software safety best practices.
  • Interface with stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Prepare safety assessment reports and safety program briefs for customer approval.
  • Brief software safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
  • Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards to ensure software safety compliance.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant software engineering or safety engineering experience.
  • Experience with system safety engineering, system engineering, software or firmware engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent safety engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DoD software safety programs.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.
  • Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
