Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team at New Avenues to Independence, Inc. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles, and supporting our mission-driven work.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  2. Journal Entry Review: Post and review journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  3. Bank Reconciliation: Reconciles bank statements and balance sheet accounts, presenting quality reconciliations with appropriate documentation and reconciling items investigated and explained.
  4. Fixed Assets Management: Maintains fixed assets software and ensures proper recording of monthly depreciation, purchases, and disposals.
  5. Grant Administration: Assist Fund Development regarding financial aspects of grant administration, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with grant requirements and ensure proper accounting for fund-raising activities.
  6. Cash Management: Deposits cash and checks, ensuring accurate and timely processing. Backup the Director of Finance for Positive Pay and other cash management activities.
  7. Financial Analysis: Analyzes Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activities accounts for variances, provides researched, and documented explanations, and completes analyses in a timely manner.
  8. Internal Controls: Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  9. Budget Development: Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget. Provide detailed budget analysis and forecasting to support strategic planning.
  10. Audit Preparation: Prepare for annual audits and respond to external auditor information requests. Ensure the organization is audit-ready and address any audit findings promptly.
  11. Reporting and Compliance: Prepare information needed for the preparation of annual Medicaid Cost Reports and annual 990 and liaise with external accountants, respond to inquiries timely.
  12. Team Collaboration: Cross-trains with other departmental positions to fill in as needed.
  13. Professional Development: Interacts with peers and colleagues and all other customers, displays a positive attitude.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with 2+ years of relevant experience, CPA certification or working toward CPA certification preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics, Business Central, or other general ledger software. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Pivot, and Power Query.
  • Ability to work additional hours during month-end closes, audits, and for strategic projects with firm deadlines.
  • An ability to stay organized while managing multiple tasks.
