Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled Lead Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in the enhancement of a vital government flight tracking system. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in both frontend and backend development, emphasizing the adoption of contemporary architectural frameworks and the enhancement of application efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the reengineering and upgrading of a legacy flight tracking system, concentrating on both frontend and backend elements.
  • Evaluate the current codebase to pinpoint opportunities for boosting performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Develop new components based on microservices architecture as instructed by the project lead.
  • Enhance system operations and assist in rewriting performance-critical components using compiled languages such as Rust, when necessary.
  • Support the modernization of the frontend application, aiding the transition from outdated technologies to a contemporary framework.
  • Implement and uphold DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Collaborate with database administrators to establish optimized database queries and structures.
  • Ensure all development complies with government security protocols and best practices.
  • Engage in code reviews and uphold high standards of code quality.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and contribute to technical discussions and decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including:
  • 6+ years of experience with JavaScript.
  • 4+ years of experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular).
  • 3+ years of experience with database design and optimization (Oracle and NoSQL databases).
  • 2+ years of experience with microservices architecture and message queuing systems.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Suite, including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Oracle 19c, Redis, and OpenLayers.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Deep understanding of software design patterns and best practices.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of containerization and microservice architectures (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Rust or other systems programming languages.
  • Familiarity with aviation or flight tracking systems.
  • Experience with government projects and related compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of GIS and mapping technologies (OpenLayers, Mapbox).

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Level security clearance.
