Position Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Compounding Technician will be tasked with the formulation of customized medications in both sterile and non-sterile settings. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive knowledge of compounding methodologies and compliance standards, particularly within a 503A framework, with a preference for familiarity with 503B compounding as well.
Core Responsibilities:
Sterile Compounding Duties:
- Formulate sterile compounded medications in a controlled environment adhering to USP protocols.
- Utilize proper aseptic techniques throughout all sterile compounding activities.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and sanitation procedures in the sterile compounding zone.
Non-Sterile Compounding Duties:
- Prepare non-sterile compounded formulations, such as creams, ointments, capsules, and solutions, in accordance with USP standards.
- Precisely measure and combine pharmaceutical components using suitable compounding apparatus.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of compounding activities and batch production records.
Quality Control:
- Comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory mandates.
- Perform quality assessments on compounded medications to guarantee precision and uniformity.
- Assist in managing adequate inventory levels of compounding materials and resources.
Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations, including FDA, DEA, and USP guidelines.
- Remain informed about updates in compounding regulations and industry best practices.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate closely with pharmacists to clarify prescriptions and ensure precise medication preparation.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and healthcare professionals to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Valid Pharmacy Technician license in PA.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in both sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Familiarity with USP , , and standards.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Desirable:
- Experience in a 503A compounding pharmacy.
- Experience with 503B compounding practices and compliance.
- Certification as a Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) by PTCB or an equivalent body.
