Job Title: Design Engineer

The Design Engineer is a key member of the Outform team, responsible for transforming visualized concepts into manufacturing-ready drawings and providing essential knowledge for manufacturing materials, processes, and cost.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess information provided by the Client, Sales/Account Management, and Project Manager and translate it into engineered design solutions, considering visual and structural integrity and cost-effective manufacturability and assembly.
  • Take approved visuals/concepts and produce prototype and manufacturing drawing projects in the form of complete drawing packs with bill of materials.
  • Design projects to suit manufacturing processes and appropriate materials.
  • Understand and consider assembly, customer interaction, and safety guidelines.
  • Meet agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Work closely with Production department colleagues to ensure the right solutions to the right supply chain are being met.
  • Work with DPM/PPM in the assembly and inspection of prototypes.
  • Visit factories as needed to verify display construction, specifications, and quality.
  • Ensure project documentation adheres to company-defined processes - detailed parts lists, QC guidelines, Technical Specification.
Qualifications:
  • B.A. in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience working in POP design industry.
  • Working knowledge and experience in designing for manufacturing displays in plastic sheet fabrication, vacuum forming, injection molding, extrusions, metal sheet metal, wire forming, steel tube and finishing, wood fabrication, hardware, and finishing.
  • Comfortable interacting with Sales, Account Project Management, Production Project Management & Production.
  • Highly motivated and good interpersonal skills. Works well in a team environment.
  • Positive approach to problem-solving/lateral thinking.
  • Process discipline - good attention to detail, ensuring compliance and correct completion of processes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, available to travel.
Software Knowledge:
  • SolidWorks.
  • Adobe CS (Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • SolidWorks EPDM.
  • 3D rendering a plus (StudioMax, Cinema4D or equivalent).
