Job Summary

The Transplant Nutrition Specialist at Baylor Scott & White Health plays a vital role in researching the nutritional requirements of patients with complicated medical conditions and developing personalized care plans. This position involves providing nutrition therapy and education to patients, families, and the community, as well as evaluating patient dietary needs and implementing nutrition therapy. The successful candidate will also be responsible for documenting patient response to care and providing nutritional counseling on complex diets.

Essential Functions of the Role
  1. Perform nutritional assessments of patients with complicated medical conditions using advanced biochemical, clinical, and anthropometric data.
  2. Examine patient medical and non-medical information through interviewing patients and/or caregivers and reviewing medical records, interpreting and applying results.
  3. Provide one-on-one and/or group nutrition counseling on complex diets requiring a combination of restrictions.
  4. Assess factors affecting dietary compliance, including socio-economic factors, past history, family dynamics, etc.
  5. Establish and implement dietary plans, providing information on fitness and exercise as related to weight management and diet.
  6. Document pertinent information in the appropriate medical record and monitor patient response to establish the need for appropriate modification in nutritional management.
  7. Participate in multi-disciplinary patient rounds and/or case conferences to gather and exchange information, ask patient response to care plan, and maximize efficiency and effectiveness of patient care.
  8. Participate in various meetings related to nutrition education, patient care standards, or dietetic internship program to gather and exchange information.
  9. Research, develop, and deliver educational and instructional programs and classes for patients, families, staff, dietetic interns, community groups, and other interested healthcare professionals.
  10. Develop nutrition educational tools, such as handouts, pamphlets, booklets, etc., and document training programs for Baylor Scott & White Health staff.
  11. Assist with training, instruction, and evaluation of dietetic interns, developing nutrition classes, educational materials, and curriculum for the dietetic internship program.
  12. Participate in research studies through data collection and literature reviews or as co-investigator, developing and delivering presentations on research-related topics.
  13. Maintain current knowledge of nutrition services functions through reading literature, attending workshops, seminars, conferences, and participating in professional organizations.
  14. Evaluate and appropriately utilize pertinent current research information related to nutritional care.
  15. Participate in Quality Assurance Program by assisting in development of patient care criteria and studying actual care delivered.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD).
