Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ocular Transplant Specialist to join our team in the Transplant Services Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for evaluating and processing ocular tissues for transplantation, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and determine the suitability of corneas for transplantation using advanced equipment and techniques.
- Perform aseptic processing of corneas and sclera, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
- Assist with packaging and shipping of tissues to end-users, ensuring compliance with storage and handling requirements.
- Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratories, clean rooms, and equipment, maintaining a sterile environment.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure accurate and complete documentation of all procedures and activities.
Requirements
- 6 months of experience as a Tissue Transplant Technician or equivalent required.
- Completion of 2 years of college, including 6 hours in basic science, or high school diploma/GED equivalent and 6 months of tissue transplant experience.
- Bachelor's degree in basic science, such as Biology or Chemistry, and certification as an Eye Bank Technician (CEBT) preferred.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a laboratory or clean room environment.
- May be required to work in an operating room environment, morgue, or funeral home, with potential exposure to disagreeable elements.
