Key Responsibilities

**Potential Incentives for External Surgical Technologists**
  • Up to $20,000 Sign-on Bonus based on experience and employment status (full/part-time)

  • Returning employees must not have been employed by Kettering Health for the last 6 months prior to rehire
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care during surgical procedures by preparing, organizing, and passing sterile instruments to the surgeon and surgical team, under the supervision of the RN and surgeon. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Accurately labeling and managing patient specimens.
  • Competently executing Surgical Technologist duties as outlined by the unit's scope of practice.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment, free from hazards.
  • Responding appropriately to delegated tasks; refraining from performing skills or care not assigned by a licensed nurse or physician.
  • Recognizing and reacting appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Exhibiting safe infection control practices.
  • Assisting the nurse/physician during patient procedures.
  • Engaging in preceptor activities as needed.
  • Participating in one elective educational opportunity.
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of aseptic techniques in preparation for and assistance during surgical procedures.
  • Preparing the operating room table and scrubbing for surgeries.
  • Providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical operations.
  • Acquiring and demonstrating skills required to operate specialized equipment utilized in the operating room.
  • Assisting with preoperative and postoperative care as directed by the RN.
  • Exhibiting a comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and supplying necessary instruments, materials, and equipment.
  • Assisting with patient transport and other care duties in the operating room.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
  • Associate Degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited program or certification from NCCT; or
  • Four (4) years of experience as a surgical technologist with a High School Diploma; or
  • Four (4) years of relevant on-the-job or military surgical technology training with a High School Diploma.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is required within one year of hire if hired without certification.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Surgical Technology skills, preferably in a hospital operating room setting.
  • Experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
