Role Responsibilities

The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will play a crucial role in our Open Heart Program, providing comprehensive inpatient care. Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting thorough assessments and evaluations of patients in the Surgical Department.
  • Performing patient history and physical examinations in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Diagnosing and treating common illnesses and injuries in adolescent and adult patients.
  • Executing emergency interventions in critical situations.
Treatment and Care

Key treatment responsibilities include:
  • Medication reconciliation and management in consultation with attending physicians.
  • Performing wound care, suturing, and incision and drainage procedures.
  • Administering injections and managing minor closed fractures and dislocations.
  • Inserting peripheral IVs and other necessary tubes.
  • Responding to cardiopulmonary emergencies and rapid response calls.
Patient Management

In addition to treatment, the role involves:
  • Ordering diagnostic studies and interpreting results.
  • Providing patient education on wellness and disease prevention.
  • Coordinating discharge planning and summarizing patient care.
