Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mortgage Collection Specialist to join our team at First Federal Lakewood. As a key member of our mortgage servicing team, you will be responsible for providing foreclosure prevention counseling to borrowers with past due loan payments and performing advanced collection activities on delinquent accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough foreclosure prevention counseling and collection calls with mortgage loan customers, establishing rapport and determining the reason for delinquency.
  2. Develop and implement effective payment plans, educating borrowers on foreclosure prevention alternatives and obtaining commitments to bring loans current or engage in preventive measures.
  3. Perform advanced collection activities, including tracking delinquent loan accounts and preparing correspondence and call letters.
  4. Maintain accurate records of collection activity using core collection applications.
  5. Solicit financial information from delinquent borrowers and make follow-up counseling calls after solicitation.
  6. Report loan event items related to foreclosure prevention to investors and provide regular updates on collector activity.
  7. Collaborate with supervisors and loss mitigation specialists to refer accounts requiring additional attention and provide reporting updates.
  8. Stay up-to-date on loss mitigation programs and serve as primary backup to the Loss Mitigation Specialist.
  9. Respond to document requests related to subpoenas, gathering documents from origination and servicing files as needed.
  10. Comply with applicable banking laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and related anti-money laundering statutes.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should possess 3+ years of experience in mortgage servicing/collections, along with a strong understanding of lending laws, regulations, and guidelines. A background in financial services or banking is preferred, as well as Notary Public status. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with a Bachelor's degree being preferred. Proficiency in MS Office Outlook, Excel, Word, or similar software is essential, with experience in Encompass, Cleartouch, Nautilus, and government/investor software/web portals being advantageous.
