Under the general oversight of a Police Sergeant, this role involves executing a range of routine field and administrative tasks that support police operations.

Responsibilities include coordinating preventative maintenance and managing inventory for the department's fleet. Some roles may require working various shifts. This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt and is recognized as a DRIVING position.

Key Responsibilities:
(Responsibilities may differ based on specific job demands, but generally include the following tasks, skills, abilities, and professional qualifications. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not exhaustive of all tasks performed by every position in this classification).

Primary Tasks:


Operates police vehicles and specialized equipment to transport for maintenance or service, between the maintenance facility, vendors, service locations, and police stations.

Operates specialized vehicles, which may include those ranging from 25-45 feet in length, vehicles with trailers, and small utility equipment.

Maintains fleet operations, which includes adhering to preventative maintenance schedules, cleaning vehicles, changing tires, and troubleshooting emergency equipment in police vehicles (computers, camera systems, radios, emergency lights, and sirens).

Provides basic maintenance and installation of non-specialized equipment (brackets, cases, lights, and accessories). Basic automotive knowledge (electrical and/or mechanical) and proficiency with hand tools such as hammers, drills, wrenches, cutters, and pliers are required.
Utilizes police radio (2-way radio system) and Fleet GPS tracking software for communication regarding location and availability for assignments.
Handles routine inquiries and appropriately directs them to the correct authorities.

Maintains inventory and supplies at police facilities (including road flares, fire extinguishers, crime scene tape, etc.) and issues equipment to police officers as needed.

Assists with office relocations and the storage of equipment and inventory. Secure storage of specialty items (e.g., ammunition, keys, etc.) is necessary. Basic framing and carpentry skills may be required to address issues and minimize downtime.
Opens and organizes products, materials, and other documentation. Indexes, codes, alphabetizes, or files various records.
Regularly views, manages, and maintains numerous logs or computerized recordkeeping systems.
Transports reports and other documentation to various law enforcement entities, e.g., Justice Courts, County Attorney's Office, Tribal Prosecutors, or Tribal Court.

Demonstrates a continuous effort to enhance operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work collaboratively to provide safe, courteous, and quality customer service.

Performs additional job-related duties as assigned to support and improve departmental operations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs, and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Knowledge of the geography and demographics of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Understanding of basic automotive mechanical and electrical systems for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with basic framing and carpentry concepts.
Proficient use of police radio (2-way radio system) with appropriate and accurate use of codes and communication skills.
Ability to listen effectively and communicate with community members and employees from diverse educational backgrounds and values.
Skill in operating both civilian and commercial vehicles and equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Capability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to walk, twist, climb, bend, squat, kneel, hold and grip objects, and reach both ground level and overhead.
Capacity to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may involve exposure to various extreme weather conditions.
Flexibility to adapt to changing work situations and assignments.
Proficiency in operating a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer technology.
Ability to utilize web-based software to complete tasks; working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and SharePoint is preferred.
Capacity to sit and stand for extended periods.
Proficiency in using basic hand tools and electric hand tools.

Education & Experience:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid Arizona Driver's License, and maintain an acceptable driving record.

For enrolled community members without a GED, obtaining a GED is required.

Participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state-certified exam is necessary to continue employment with SRPMIC.


Equivalency:

Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling this position.


Underfill Eligibility:

An enrolled Community Member who closely meets the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

Successful completion of a Police Department background investigation, polygraph, and psychological examinations is required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
Must be physically capable of lifting (50) Fifty pounds.
Prior to hire, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing and must pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
