Key Responsibilities- Therapeutic Milieu Maintenance: Conduct regular checks on residents, resident rooms, and facility property to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Resident Monitoring: Monitor residents' physical and emotional well-being, reporting any unusual behavior or physical ailments to medical staff and the treatment team.
- Documentation and Charting: Complete necessary resident charting and documentation within each shift.
- De-escalation and Restraint: Be prepared and willing to intervene with verbal de-escalation and physically perform benevolent restraints with violent, potentially violent, or suicidal residents.
- Behavioral Influence: Observe and influence residents' behavior, communicating and interacting with them to promote positive change.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with mental health therapists, psychologists, and rehabilitation therapists to provide comprehensive care to our residents.
- Activity Development: Encourage and aid residents to develop their own activities of daily living, practice social skills, and participate in social, recreational, or other therapeutic activities.
- Training and Development: Train or instruct new employees on procedures to follow with psychiatric patients.
- Wellness and Independence: Develop or teach strategies to promote resident wellness and independence.
- Therapy Sessions: Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures.
- Boundary Maintenance: Maintain personal and professional boundaries while upholding program policies and procedures.
- Transportation and Supervision: Transport and closely supervise residents at appointments or off-campus activities, reporting behavioral observations upon returning to the facility.
- Staff Meetings and Training: Attend monthly staff meetings and mandatory trainings.
- Correspondence and Policies: Read all required correspondence related to resident care prior to each shift and demonstrate understanding of Bridge House policies and procedures.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in the human services field preferred.
- Age and Driving Requirements: Must be 21 or over and have a valid driver's license with 5 years of driving experience and a current good driving record.
- Certifications and Background Check: Must pass a background check.
- Attendance and Reliability: Must be punctual and reliable in attendance and follow shift coverage protocols, with 95% attendance to scheduled shifts expected.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to exert 50 pounds by lifting, pushing, carrying, etc., and meet physical requirements including bending, carrying, far/near vision, lifting, hearing/listening, manual dexterity, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, speaking, standing, and walking for distances and on uneven terrain, including up and down stairs.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Must possess excellent verbal communication skills, be able to listen, follow directions, and communicate resident location, status, and other information using a Bridge House radio and earpiece, and have the ability to build rapport and connect with diverse people from different backgrounds.
- Problem-Solving and Stress Management: Must be able to demonstrate warmth, empathy, and patience to our residents, and possess problem-solving, quick thinking, good memory, and active listening skills, as well as good stress management skills to remain calm amid chaos.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are required for charting, scheduling, and email functions.
